A Board ban in Ilkley from April 2018
Update: Bradford Council’s Executive have this week voted to ban pavement advertising boards (A-boards) from the streets of Ilkley.
Members of Bradford Council’s Executive look set to impose a district wide ban on advertising A boards.
Following a resolution at Full Council in July this year, Executive members will be asked to set the final seal on the ban to come into force from April next year.
The Council vote was widely welcomed by representatives of disabled and other groups and follows a 12-month trial in Ilkley, Saltaire and Leeds Road.
From April 2018, businesses which flout the ban repeatedly can be served with a Community Protection Notice under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act of 2014.
Failing to comply with the Notice can result in a Fixed Penalty Notice of £100 and the confiscation of the A board.
A report to the Executive, which meets at City Hall on November 7, says that businesses will be advised of the ban in a letter accompanying their business rates notification at the beginning of next year.
Coun Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: “We want to ensure all businesses who may be impacted by the ban have plenty of notice, and using the business rates notification in the New Year is the simplest and most cost effective way of doing that.
“The ban will come into place from April 2018 and in the meantime we are happy to talk to any businesses about different ways of promoting their business.”
