Bakers and Band join the Bake Off Competition launching the Ilkley Big Lunch & Street party

Everyone is invited to come to enjoy cake and the music of the Two Rivers Concert band as bakers young and old battle it out at the Ilkley Great Get Together ‘Bake Off’ competition on Saturday 2 June at the Ilkley Baptist Church. For any budding bakers or band members the morning is the ideal opportunity to get involved with two great community groups!

Les Goldman, Chair of the Two Rivers Bands explains “We’re delighted to be supporting the 2018 Ilkley Great Get Together and this competition. Our Concert Band Open Rehearsal will give Bake Off competitors and spectators the chance to see how we rehearse and to hear some of the great music we play. And if any wind or percussion players are thinking of joining us, this is an ideal opportunity for them to come along and sit in with the Band for a couple of numbers.”

The Bake Off is being organised by the team from the Ilkley Great Get Together Big Lunch & Street Party who are asking entrants to bring their cakes to the Ilkley Baptist Church for 9.00am with judging at 10.00am. Local cake and baking businesses will be judging the three categories for budding bakers which include:

  1. Four Great Get Together Fairy Cakes - Children's competition: 4 identical fairy cakes that capture the Great Get Together theme. Judge: Chantel Teal, owner of Love Brownies and prize of Box for Four Brownies and points tote bag.

  2. A Picnic on a Plate - 4 homemade picnic items, 2 savouries and at least one cake, that a young person has made with an older person (retirement age).  This one is a 2-person entry. Judge:  Chris Taylor, Course Tutor at Betty’s Cookery School and prize of Afternoon Tea for two at the Ilkley Café Tea Rooms

  3. The Ilkley Great Get Together Show Stopper - Adult competition: Let your imagination run riot and provide a delicious sponge cake with at GGT theme. Judge: Alice Pearson, Copper Spoon Cakery and prize of 12 bespoke Bundt Cakes

The Bake Off is the warm up event ahead of the Ilkley Big Lunch & Street Party which take place on the Grove on Sunday 24 June from 12 noon – 4pm.

Becky Malby from the Great Get Together team ends “Great Get Together is all about bringing the community together. We’re hoping to see lots of people at our Bake Off where we will be serving tea and coffee as well as lots of cake! The Two Rivers Band open rehearsal will be an excellent accompaniment to this fun, and hopefully a very popular event! If you would like to join for tea, cake and the concert do get there before 10.00am!”
