ILKLEY SUMMER FESTIVAL SCALED BACK

Plans are underway for this year’s Ilkley Summer Festival BUT help is needed for it to continue and a drop in afternoon has been organised this Friday, 3 March, for residents interested in getting involved with new ideas or to just volunteer their services.

Many of the past events have been subsidised using grants or by Bradford Council, but due to many cuts these sources of income are unlikely to continue, which means some events, including the larger open air concerts won’t take place this year.

The 2017 summer festival will launch on 27 July with the Syd Lawrence Orchestra, thanks to the Friends of Kings Hall, the popular continental market will return 11-13 August, but assistance is needed if there is to be musical entertainment on the bandstand over the weekend.

Also back is the Jazz festival, a Yorkshire Day event and the festival will finish with a concert on the Grove organised by Ilkley Parish Council.  It’s hoped the Flower Show and organised walks will also happen this year.

Anyone interested in getting involved with ideas, which would need to be financially supported, or can help with organising music for the bandstand over the market weekend is asked to attend the drop in afternoon at Ilkley Town Hall on Friday 3 March between 2-4pm.  If you can’t attend but would like to help please email festival director Anne Hawkesworth anne.hawkesworth@googlemail.com
