Ilkley has come together to provide free school meals over the holidays both this half term and over Christmas.
This half term they are providing vouchers for lunches and food parcels with the help of the foodbank. They are reaching the families that would normally have free school meals through Ilkley Grammar School this half term, and have approached the primary schools so they can include them for the Christmas holidays provision. Schools are best placed to distribute the food, as families often find it difficult to ask for help. Overall they are expecting to support 100-150 Ilkley families over the holidays.
Becky from the scheme has explained a little more:
"1. If you would like to buy a lunch voucher for a local cafe then please do so and drop through the door of 30 Nelson Rd LS29 8HN. We need these by the end of Monday evening as the vouchers will go out on Tuesday. 2. If you would like to donate to our voucher scheme (through Ilkley Covid response) then please donate HERE. Please add Free School Meals in the message and we will then be able to track the funding for this. 3. If you would like to help at Christmas with packing food parcels, or collecting food and supplies for the parcels, please let us know at Ilkleyggt@gmail.com . We will be doing this every week for 3 weeks over the holidays on Monday and Tuesday.
We know Bradford Council are also supporting provision, but given the size of need across the District, Ilkley will be doing our best to support our families."
The scheme is being coordinated by Ilkley Great Get Together, with thanks to Ilkley Foodbank, Ilkley Town Council, Ilkley primary schools PTA Collective, Christchurch, Tesco, and Ilkley Grammar School.
