Ilkley MP to address u3a members

Keighley and Ilkley MP Robbie Moore

Ilkley & District u3a will kick of its 2022 programme of monthly talks in style on Saturday 15 January with Keighley and Ilkley MP Robbie Moore.

Following his predecessor John Grogan in addressing u3a members, Robbie will describe ‘Life as an MP’, a talk about his experiences as an MP since winning the seat in 2019 for the Conservatives.

With the advent of the pandemic, it has been a challenging time to be in government and the talk promises to be of interest to everyone. It will be held in the main hall, Clarke Foley Centre, Cunliffe Road, Ilkley at 10am.

The monthly talks are only one of a packed programme of activities offered by Ilkley & District u3a. Members have over 140 different groups to choose from, including sports, music, languages, creative writing, science and technology, arts and crafts, local history, dancing, and walking. New groups are opening up all the time, often using venues in outlying towns and villages as well as those in Ilkley. With the emphasis on fun and friendship, the u3a is the perfect antidote to the loneliness and social isolation experienced by many older people.

Membership is open to those in the area who are retired or semi-retired and there is currently a special subscription offer of £7 for anyone joining now until renewal in July.

A spokesperson for u3a said: "If you would like to find out more about Ilkley & District u3a, come along to meet our friendly trustees and group leaders at one of the Drop-in sessions. These are held on the first and third Friday mornings of the month in the Clarke Foley Centre, Cunliffe Road, Ilkley from 10.30 - 12 noon when there is an opportunity to chat and ask questions over a cuppa. Information on how to join is found on the website at ilkleyu3a.org, on Facebook and Twitter."
