Ilkley Wellness Workshop for World Menopause Day

Jo Buckingham and & Beth Hughes

Registered nutritionist Beth Hughes and personal trainer and Pilates teacher Jo Buckingham hosted a workshop for local women at Ilkley Tennis Club to mark World Menopause Day.

The event on 18th October was such a success, a second workshop has been organised in November.

The average age of menopause in the UK is 51 and whilst some women will breeze through menopause, it can be a challenging time for many. The hormonal rollercoaster of perimenopause can result in everything from anxiety and mood swings to weight gain, hot flushes, insomnia and brain fog.

The good news is most symptoms are temporary and there are lots of things women can do to make things easier. “Nutrition and lifestyle can have a huge impact on a woman’s experience of menopause. Even small changes can make a big difference. It’s great to have the opportunity to spread the word and empower women with simple diet and exercise tips.” stated Beth.

Jo goes on to note the importance of movement during this phase of a woman’s life “Building and maintaining lean muscle mass is critical to achieving a healthy weight, supporting bone health and feeling good! During the session we focussed on simple resistance exercises to build muscle and Pilates movements that can support strength, balance and flexibility. It was great to see everyone joining in.”

Following the success of October's event and requests from local women to hold a weekend session, Beth & Jo will be running the workshop again on Saturday 12th November 2-4.30pm. For more information and to book your place visit https://bethhughesnutrition.com/events/
