Ilkley Town Council (ITC) are appealing for information following the vandalism at the weekend of one of the lamp posts in Mill Ghyll, between Wells Walk and Wells Promenade in Ilkley.
The incident took place on Saturday night and has been reported to the police, who also found evidence of drugs and drinking.
Council contractors have made the remains of the post safe and after surveying the damage has told ITC both the lamp post and Victorian head were damaged beyond repair.
To match the existing scheme, the replacement items need to be imported from Holland and the total cost to ITC is over £1,800 – it is thought this won’t be covered by insurance, so will probably come out of the town council funds, paid by Ilkley residents.
If anyone knows what happens or did see anything suspicious they are asked to contact the Town Council Clerk clerk@towncouncil.ilkley.org or 01943 436212
