Ilkley cyclist in final third of epic charity ride

Antony Butcher has now completed around two thirds of his solo bike ride across the United States

Antony Butcher from Ilkley is making progress in his challenge to cycle 4,000 miles across the US to raise money for people living with multiple sclerosis.

Having now cycled over 2400 miles across 15 states and climbed the height of Mount Everest twice, Antony has now passed over the Rocky Mountains, the largest mountain range in North America, which stand at over 4000 ft.

Antony says: "it feels amazing to have come over the Rockies, having seen some of the most stunning landscape I’ve ever witnessed. The last few days of cycling have been extremely emotional and challenging as I come up to around 800 miles of arid desert before I reach the Sierra Nevada mountain range.”

Currently staying in Dinosaur, Colorado, Antony Butcher has now completed around two thirds of his solo bike ride across the United States, having set off from on Chicago on the 23rd April. He is due to finish his journey in San Francisco on the 13th July and be reunited with his wife.

Antony is raising money for multiple sclerosis, and has now achieved his initial goal of raising £20,000 for charity and now aims to raise £30,000. Antony is primarily raising funds for the MS Society, a cause that is close to his heart as his mum has been living with MS for over thirty years, and now lives in a local nursing home.
