Ashlands Primary School's Bonfire & Fireworks is set to celebrate its 40th anniversary in spectacular style this Saturday.

This year’s anniversary promises to be the biggest and brightest yet, with an enhanced fireworks spectacular taking centre stage alongside the traditional bonfire, food, drinks and family-friendly atmosphere visitors have enjoyed for generations.

Ste Hallam, from Friends of Ashlands, said: “Reaching our 40th anniversary is a real milestone, and it’s wonderful to think about how many families have enjoyed Ashlands Bonfire over the years. For some, it’s become a tradition they’ve enjoyed since childhood and now share with their own children.”

While the event has evolved over the years, its purpose remains the same: bringing people together and raising money to support Ashlands Primary School and its pupils.

Behind the scenes, the event is made possible by a dedicated team of volunteers, including parents, school staff, former pupils and members of the wider community. From building the bonfire and organising the fireworks to running food stalls and serving refreshments, an enormous amount of work goes into making the evening happen.

Cllr Damian Kearns, Mayor of Ilkley, Said “Ashlands Bonfire has been bringing our community together for 40 years, and it’s a wonderful example of what makes Ilkley such a special place. It’s much more than a spectacular bonfire and fireworks display – it’s a volunteer-led event that’s created lasting memories for generations of local families while raising vital funds for Ashlands Primary School. Organised events like this offer a safer way for families to enjoy spectacular fireworks in a controlled environment, rather than risking the dangers associated with unorganised displays.”

With previous events selling out, organisers are encouraging families to book early to avoid disappointment and be part of this landmark celebration.

Ashlands Bonfire takes place on Saturday 7 November at Ashlands Primary School, Leeds Road, Ilkley. Gates open at 5.30pm, the bonfire will be lit at 6.15pm, and the anniversary fireworks display begins at 7.30pm.
