A conversation between paint and clay comes to Tinker Gallery

‘Fracture and Flow’ opens on 3 September at the Tinker Gallery

Two York-based artists will bring colour, form and texture together in a vibrant September exhibition in Ilkley.

Painter Di Gomery and ceramicist Emily Stubbs, will come together at Tinker Gallery for Fracture and Flow: A Conversation Between Paint and Clay.

Running from 3 September, the exhibition is a collaboration between two artists united by a shared love of colour, form and texture, but working in very different mediums.

Di Gomery tends to paint on a large scale. Bold, bright colours sit side by side, imaginative interpretations of still life, landscape and abstract expressionism. Working mostly in oil paint, Di has a playful approach to painting, full of energy, gesture, and mark-making.

Emily Stubbs makes fragmented vessels. Emily deconstructs and rebuilds her clay forms and shapes, adding exaggerated overhangs and angles. Intuitive brushstrokes of color on the surface of each vessel treat it like a painting, drawing your eye around the form.

Gallery owner Joanne Tinker says: ‘These two different ways of working come together beautifully in the gallery space, bringing joy and delight with a contemporary twist."

Fracture and Flow: A Conversation Between Paint and Clay will be on display at Tinker Gallery, Church Street, Ilkley, from 3–26 September 2026. The gallery is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10am–4pm.
