On Saturday, 13 June, two local choral societies will come together to present a charming and exuberant concert featuring the music of 20th century composers.

Ilkley Choral Society, along with Otley Choral Society, will deliver their summer concert, Magnificat, at St Margaret's Church on Queens Road in Ilkley from 7pm.

Top of the bill is John Rutter’s ‘Magnificat’: a highly accessible work that thrills with bold fanfares, stately majestic choral sections and tranquil contemplative movements.

A spokesperson explains this piece further: "This is a joyful and enthusiastic piece, drawing heavily on musical theatre and evoking the spirit of festivals held in Europe in honour of the Virgin Mary.

"Francis Poulenc composed ‘Gloria’ in 1959 and it is regarded as one of the 20th century’s most celebrated sacred / secular works. Don’t miss the dance-like rhythms and the slower lyrical melodies, all closing with peaceful serenity.

"And who can resist the compellingly beautiful and moving ‘Cantique de Jean Racine’, composed by Gabriel Faure at just 19 years old. The flowing and graceful melodies contribute to this wonderfully elegant piece of music: considered by many one of the finest ever written.

"Please come along to hear all this incredible music, presented by Musical Director Alex Kyle, along with Accompanist Robert Sudall and Soprano soloist Sarah Fox.

"Looking forward to seeing you to enjoy a splendid evening of stunning music."

Tickets £20 are available from The Grove Bookshop, Ilkley, from The Bookshop on the Square, Otley, from any choir member and online at http://ChoralSocSummer26.eventbrite.co.uk
