A new Symphony Orchestra for Ilkley


John Anderson is forming a new symphonic ensemble -the Ilkley Philharmonic Orchestra

After 34 years at the helm of the Airedale Symphony Orchestra, John Anderson’s tenure as music director has come to an end. John is now forming a new symphonic ensemble to be known as Ilkley Philharmonic Orchestra.


This brand new orchestra will give a series of three concerts each season in All Saints Parish Church, Ilkley. The inaugural programme on Saturday 2nd December, will feature Elgar’s beloved Cello Concerto in E minor with soloist Graham Morris. As a member of Manchester Camerata, Graham records extensively and has worked alongside such renowned artists as Martha Argerich and Pinchas Zukerman.


Sally Robinson is to be Leader of the Ilkley Philharmonic. A respected player and teacher, Sally leads the National Festival Orchestra and Yorkshire Chamber Ensemble. Sally will lead the recently formed Ilkley Chamber Orchestra’s first Ilkley Concert, at All Saints Parish Church on Saturday 22nd July.


The Ilkley Philharmonic currently has vacancies for string and brass players in all sections. A minimum standard of Grade 7/8 or its equivalent, is required. Rehearsals will take place at Guiseley Methodist Church (next to the train station) on Monday evenings from 7.30-9.45pm, starting on the 4th September.
