Addingham residents urged to have their say on 55-home proposal

Ilkley and Addingham’s three ward councillors are urging residents to comment on plans for 55 homes on land south of Main Street in Addingham.

Planning application 26/02592/MAF seeks full permission for the development, including a new access from Main Street, internal roads, parking, landscaping, public open space and drainage works.

The development would be on Green Belt land adjoining Addingham Cricket Club, within the Addingham Conservation Area.

Councillors Jane Sellers, Richard Downey and Andrew Loy are encouraging residents to examine the plans and submit their views to Bradford Council before the consultation closes on Wednesday 16 September 2026.

They say residents may wish to consider the impact on the conservation area, cricket ground and its setting, important local views, traffic, drainage, wildlife and local infrastructure. Comments should clearly explain which aspects residents support or oppose, with planning reasons.

Cllr Jane Sellers said: “Building 55 houses on these open fields would fundamentally change the eastern approach to Addingham and the rural setting of the village, and I will strongly oppose this application.

“Bradford Council’s own Conservation Area Assessment says that ‘the cricket ground and fields to the south of Main Street are designated as Green Belt and incremental development should be resisted. The views across this area towards Moorside, Ilkley Moor and into the village are important and enhance the rural setting.’ The cricket ground is a cherished part of community life in Addingham, and I do not believe this is the right place for a large housing estate.”

Cllr Richard Downey said: “I have very serious concerns about the scale and location of this proposal. This is not a small infill development - it would place 55 houses on open land within the conservation area and immediately beside the cricket ground.

“The Addingham Neighbourhood Plan identifies the view from the cricket ground across these fields as important, with the old stone barn acting as a focal point. I encourage residents to examine the application and ensure that Bradford Council understands the nature and extent of local concerns.”
