Appeal to help Ben Rhydding Scouts and Guides reach Net Zero!

Ben Rhydding Scout and Guide Group have just launched a campaign to raise funds to install solar panels on the roof of the group headquarters on Wheatley Lane, near the railway bridge.

The group is one of the largest Scouting and Guiding groups in Yorkshire with over 250 young people active in the various sections

A spokesperson said: “We have been working hard to reduce our energy demand including self-funding the installation of LED lights and motion sensors, as well as good insulation and double-glazed windows.

“We now want to work towards becoming Net Zero and install solar panels to generate renewable energy for direct use and excess power will be put back into the grid for wider community use.

“This will help us lower our carbon footprint as well as engage Scout & Guide groups on sustainability initiatives, build resilience to power supply and importantly be part of the wider community action to mitigate climate change. Solar panels will also reduce their energy bills allowing more investment into our young people and activities.”

A JustGiving page has been set up for any contributions or offers of support:

The group are also offering sponsorship of the solar panels with your name/business recognised as a supporter in a plaque within the hut. Any individuals or businesses can get in touch via email

“We are keen to hear from businesses that could help them in achieving our goal. Many thanks for your support”
