A planning application to demolish Hollycroft on Hebers Ghyll Drive in Ilkley and construct a new care home has been refused by Bradford Council planning officers.
Barchester Healthcare Ltd wanted to build a 31 bedroom care home on the site and plans attracted 55 objections, including from Ilkley Town Council and Ilkley Civic Society. There were 2 letters of support.
In a report, planning officers said: "On balance, it is considered that the harm to the Conservation Area, as a consequence of the demolition of the building, would outweigh any public benefits derived from the application.
"The proposed development would fail to conserve or enhance the heritage significance of Ilkley Conservation Area as it would conflict with established and characteristic architectural styles, building form, palette of materials, spatial qualities of the buildings and their plots, within the Conservation Area."
