  • The course is straight forward and helps build confidence should you have an emergency situation in your home.

There is no doubt in anybody’s minds that we are in the midst of some very tough times and may well be for some weeks to come. What the last month has shown the nation is that this United Kingdom has the most dedicated medical professionals and health workers we could wish for and this is the time to truly cherish and appreciate our NHS. What the government wants to achieve with lockdown is reduce the stress on our valuable NHS and all those who support it. The thing is, we can all help both ourselves and the NHS in these challenging times by taking the FREE, on-line lifesaving course from Ilkley’s Got Heart.

The ‘Ilkley’s Got Heart’ campaign needs you all to take the simple, FREE on-line course to equip you with the basic, but essential, skills to save lives in your home. The course is straight forward and helps build confidence should you have an emergency situation in your home. This is not created to replace the services of the first responders or the ambulance service, but what it does do is buy valuable time to allow those on the front line to get to your nearest and dearest as soon as they can. The NHS is stretched and the emergency services have Covid 19 to deal with as well as the many other emergencies of day to day life. The actions you take in those first few minutes of a critical situation could save lives whilst the emergency services respond.

The totally FREE e-learning course, available at www.ilkleysgotheart.co.uk is designed to give you the essential skills to help those in your home in an emergency. Even if you have previous basic first aid training, you can refresh your knowledge using this course. Broken into five, 10-minute modules, the course covers Primary Survey of the casualty, CPR, Bleeding, Choking and Stroke. It takes under an hour to complete the course and you gain a certificate of completion. If you are at all concerned with the potential risks of close contact with an individual with Coronavirus, the website also has a video with guidances as to how to safely administer aid in that situation.

The original goal was to get 1000 people in Ilkley signed up, but in these challenging times we encourage anyone, anywhere in the country to take the course by simply registering online at www.ilkleysgotheart.co.uk.

The ‘Ilkley’s Got Heart’- Prepared to Save a Life online training initiative was developed by Ilkley based Virtual College, Qualsafe Ltd and the charity ‘Community Save a Life Scheme’ (CSALS), to help get more people trained nationally in basic first aid. The Ilkley Community Network Group saw this as an opportunity to create something great in Ilkley.

The non-profit campaign is being generously supported and sponsored by local groups and businesses including Virtual College, The Ilkley BID, Westbrook Agency, PACO First Aid, Bradford MDC, Welcome to Yorkshire and Ilkley Town Council.

David Shaw MBE, Chairman of Ilkley Community Network Group commented “I appeal to everyone out there to take the course, it’s totally free, there is no ongoing commitment or pressure, you’ve really nothing to lose and everything to gain by doing it. We are in a challenging period with Covid 19 dominating our lives, whilst we are confined to our homes now is the perfect opportunity to both better yourself and help protect your family and loved ones.”

David goes on to say “The Ilkley Community Network Group has a clear role of helping to bring people to work together for the good of Ilkley. The Ilkley’s Got Heart Prepared to Save a Life campaign is a great example of this and demonstrates the passion to make Ilkley safer. We thank our sponsors and supporters without whom this campaign would not have had such great impact.”
