Birthday card appeal as 'The Luckiest Soldier of WWII' turns 102
Greenholme House Care Home in Burley-in-Wharfedale is calling on the local community to help make one very special resident’s 102nd birthday a celebration to remember!
On Saturday 14 November, Rex, affectionately known as 'The Luckiest Soldier of WWII', will reach the incredible milestone of 102 years old, and the team at Greenholme House wants to make sure he feels truly celebrated.
The team is inviting local businesses, schools, community groups, neighbours and friends across Ilkley, Burley-in-Wharfedale and beyond to come together and help make Rex’s birthday extra special.
Greenholme House say Rex is a true gentleman with a remarkable story to tell of his time serving with the East Yorkshire Regiment during the Second World War. His memories, experiences and wonderful stories are truly special, and this milestone deserves to be celebrated in style.
A spokesperson said: "We are delighted to be working alongside the Ilkley Veterans Breakfast Club to help make the occasion memorable, including hopefully arranging a visit from members of the Home Guard community to celebrate with him."
Staff at the care home are planning four days of birthday celebrations and would love the local community to get involved.
Whether it is a local business wishing to send its best wishes, a school whose pupils would enjoy making birthday cards, or simply someone who would like to put a smile on Rex’s face, Greenholme House would love to hear from them.
Members of the community are invited to pop into Greenholme House with a birthday card for Rex and enjoy a little sweet treat as a thank you. Cards can be posted to Rex – 102nd Birthday Celebrations, Greenholme House Care Home, Summer Court, Burley-in-Wharfedale, Ilkley, LS29 7QZ
The Greenholme House team is asking local businesses and community organisations to help make Rex’s 102nd birthday one to remember and hopes to collect as many birthday cards as possible for this very special gentleman!
