A new community network bringing women together through connection, empathy, support and fun, launched this week.

AWWA (Accepting Who We Are), co-founded by model, podcaster and body confidence activist Rachel Peru and coach Tina Boden, launched the Big Knickers Network at independent lingerie boutique The Fitting Room in Ilkley.

The evening was about creating a welcoming space for women to share experiences, build confidence and embrace life on their own terms.

Thirty women attended the launch, enjoying drinks, canapés and honest conversations as Rachel and Tina introduced AWWA’s work and plans for the community.

They also welcomed ambassadors Julie Kelly, 58, who is embracing modelling and creativity in coastal Yorkshire, and Sara Barnes, 64, whose year-round cold-water swimming journey reflects remarkable strength and resilience. In 2025 she nearly lost her life twice, and those experiences made her stronger and more determined to live, not just survive.

Debbie Healey, who has shared her bra-fitting expertise at The Fitting Room for over 20 years, gave an informative talk on bra fitting, breast care and why one size doesn't fit all.

Guests left with gold soft-stretch knickers gifted by Chantelle Paris, celebrating confidence and self-acceptance.

Rachel Peru said : "Tina and I are so excited to launch the Big Knickers Network and bring women together. There was so much laughter, new connections were made, and everyone went home ready to put on their big knickers and face new challenges, knowing we've got their backs. And after Debbie's talk, I'm sure I'm not the only one who'll be clearing out her lingerie drawer!"

Tina Boden said: "Independent lingerie stores are where real fitting expertise lives. By bringing the Big Knickers Network into boutiques like The Fitting Room, we're connecting women with the people who can genuinely help them feel good in their bodies, and supporting local businesses at the same time."

The launch follows Rachel and Tina’s appearance on BBC Radio 2’s Jeremy Vine on 12 October. Further Big Knickers Network events are planned.
