Changes to Ilkley suspension bridge dropped following objections

Plans to increase the guardrail height of Ilkley's suspension bridge have been withdrawn due to numerous objections.

Rombalds Radio is reporting over 72 objections were made to the plans which has prompted Bradford Council to review its planning application from March for the works officers felt would help solve the problem. It would have seen the height of the guardrail on the fence increased to 2.4 metres.

The bridge has been a hot spot for dangerous behaviour in warm weather with people jumping off the bridge despite signs and temporary fencing, which has been regularly vandalised.

Ilkley Town Council called for officers to go back to the drawing board and come up with a more suitable design.
