Community action days to clear the leaves in Ilkley

Ilkley residents are being invited to come together this autumn to help clear fallen leaves from local pavements and footpaths as part of Ilkley Town Council’s Community Days of Action.

The volunteer events will take place at locations across Ilkley and Ben Rhydding on Friday 23 October and Wednesday 25 November 2026, from 10am to 12 noon.

While responsibility for clearing leaves from roads and pavements rests with Bradford Council, whose leaf-sweeping teams are currently visiting the area regularly, the task is a big one — and local residents can play a valuable part in helping to keep the town tidy and accessible.

By giving a little of their time, volunteers can help make Ilkley’s streets cleaner, safer and more pleasant for everyone, particularly those who may find it difficult to navigate leaf-covered pavements.

Residents are encouraged to bring gloves, brushes or leaf rakes if they have them. Everyone is welcome, and volunteers can stay for as long as they are able.

Friday 23 October

  • Location: Wells Road, College Drive and Crossbeck Road

  • Meeting point: Darwin Gardens car park

  • Time: 10am–12 noon

Wednesday 25 November

  • Location: Wheatley Lane

  • Meeting point: Entrance to Ben Rhydding Primary School on Bolling Road

  • Time: 10am–12 noon

Further locations may be added closer to the dates. Residents are encouraged to check Ilkley Town Council’s website and events page for the latest information.

Ilkley’s Town Council Warden also works throughout the town to clear fallen leaves. If you know of a particular problem area that is not included in the locations above, please let the Town Council know by emailing enquiries@ilkleytowncouncil.gov.uk.
