Community thanked as response saved a life

Emergency services were called to Cowpasture Road on Saturday to attend to a cyclist who had suffered a major heart attack.

Shortly before midday on 6 June, a man came off his bike at the bottom of Cowpasture Road and if it wasn't for the community response and CPR the outcome may have been different.

Mike, a friend of the gentleman contacted Ilkley Chat to pass this message on to Ilkley:

"THANK YOU people of Ilkley. Yesterday one of our cycling group had a massive heart attack in the centre, he is now recovering well thanks to everyone who came to help.

"15 mins of CPR until the ambulance arrived saved his life. Big thanks to the guy that ran and got the de-fib (would love to thank you again if anyone knows him) passing cyclists, drivers, the lady for the beauty shop were all fantastic.

"Tim from KR Martin who looked after the rest of us in his show room, thank you. Thanks again Ilkley you were amazing in getting a good outcome."

The British Heart Foundation has information and support on its website, but stresses a suspected heart attack is a medical emergency and you should call 999 for an ambulance immediately.
