The Rotary ducks are congregating in Ilkley for the first Annual Ilkley Duck Race on Sunday 29 August as part of the line-up for the Ilkley Riverside Celebration and Community Picnic.
Organised by Ilkley Clean River Group, the event is taking place in East Holmes Field and close to the Riverside Hotel in the Riverside War Memorial Gardens between 12 and 4 and will include an afternoon of music and entertainment, continuing into the evening at the Riverside Hotel.
Visitors will be able to take the Nature Walk from the Manor House past Poetry Corner, Dance display, Wildlife Photography exhibition and Bard in the Yard. There will also be a River Exhibition and film and games in the tent; and a community picnic on East Holmes Field.
The duck race organised by the Rotary Club of Ilkley Wharfedale will start at 2pm from the Riverside Hotel boating landing, finishing at the New Bridge. Cash prizes for the three winning ducks will be £200 for first, £100 for second place and £50 for third.
Individual numbered ducks can be sponsored for £2, with all proceeds will go to small local charities in Ilkley and Wharfedale. Tickets are available from the Kabin at The Riverside Hotel and on the day from the race start (any maybe other locations) between 12 and 1.30pm.
Peter Mate from the Rotary said: “This is intended to be the first of the Rotary Club’s annual Duck Races with the 2022 event planned, hopefully, to coincide with the Ilkley Carnival. Winners will be contacted through their chosen method, either phone or email.
