With less than one week to go until Sunday 12th July, excitement is building across Wharfedale as runners, supporters, and local communities prepare for one of the region’s most scenic and anticipated road races – the Ilkley Half Marathon.
Set against the stunning backdrop of the Yorkshire Dales, the Ilkley Half Marathon & 5K returns this Sunday, bringing together thousands of participants for a challenging and rewarding 13.1-mile route through the heart of Ilkley and its surrounding countryside.
The Ilkley Half Marathon & 5K is proudly organised by Ilkley & District Round Table, a volunteer organisation dedicated to supporting local good causes and strengthening community life across the area. Every step of the event is driven by their commitment to giving back, with all proceeds raised from the race going directly into funding community projects, local charities, and grassroots initiatives. Over the years, this has helped support a wide range of organisations and causes that make a real difference across the region.

A spokesperson for Ilkley & District Round Table said: “The Ilkley Half Marathon & 5K is more than just a race for us – it’s a way of bringing the community together while raising vital funds for local groups who do incredible work all year round. We’re incredibly proud of what the event has become and grateful to everyone who takes part, volunteers, and supports it.”
To ensure the safety of runners, volunteers, and spectators, rolling road closures will be in place from 10:00am on race day. Roads will reopen progressively as soon as the final runner has safely passed and it is deemed appropriate by event safety teams. Residents and visitors are kindly advised to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow the instructions of stewards and signage throughout the event area.
More than just a race, the Ilkley Half Marathon & 5K has become a true celebration of endurance, community spirit, and local pride. This year promises an amazing atmosphere along the course, with cheering crowds, live entertainment, and supportive marshals helping to carry runners every step of the way.

The Event Village will once again be a vibrant hub of activity, energy, and excitement. Open from the early morning, it will feature:
A buzzing atmosphere as runners prepare for the start
Music, announcements, and live commentary throughout the day
Food and drink vendors serving up well-earned refreshments
Family-friendly activities and spectator viewing areas
A finish-line celebration zone where medals, cheers, and personal triumphs take centre stage
Whether you're running, supporting, or soaking up the atmosphere, the Event Village is the perfect place to experience the spirit of race day.

The event will receive a truly memorable salute this year, with a special flypast from the Royal Air Force’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) arriving over East Holmes Field at around 11:42am with three passes planned. This historic WWII aircraft — famous for its role in the D‑Day landings — will add a memorable moment for runners, volunteers and spectators.
With final preparations underway, organisers are encour aging spectators to line the streets, bring their voices, and help create an unforgettable atmosphere for every participant taking on the challenge.
From first-time runners to seasoned club athletes, the Ilkley Half Marathon & 5K promises drama, determination, and moments to remember from start to finish.
