Food waste collections are coming to Ilkley

Food waste makes up a large proportion of the rubbish found in household bins. Bradford Council is introducing separate food waste collections for households across the district, including Ilkley.

Under the Government’s Simpler Recycling legislation, all councils are required to introduce separate food waste collections, helping to create a more consistent approach to recycling across the country.

The Government has covered the cost of setting up the service, meaning food waste collections will be free for households.

The first food waste caddies, liners and outdoor bins have now been delivered to households in the first areas, with almost 25,000 households ready to start recycling their food waste. Weekly collections will begin next week for these residents.

The service will be rolled out to more households across the district over the coming months, including residents in Ilkley.

There’s no need for residents to contact Bradford Council or order bins. Everything needed will be delivered directly to households when their area is ready to join the scheme.

Ilkley residents are encouraged to look out for their new food waste containers and further information about when weekly collections will begin.
