Friends of Ilkley Moor announce September events

The Friends of Ilkley Moor have announced three events taking place this September, offering people the opportunity to explore the moor while learning more about its wildlife, habitats and conservation.
The programme begins with Moorland Bats on Friday 11 September, from 7pm to 8.30pm. Led by Andrew Milne, the guided three-mile walk will explore the tarns and pine woodland, using bat detectors to identify the night creatures living on the moor. The moderate walk includes some uphill sections. Participants should bring a torch if they have one. Dogs are welcome on leads.
On Sunday 13 September, from 2pm to 4pm, the focus turns to the Conservation of Ilkley Moor. Led by Tracy Gray, the three-mile circular walk will explore the ecology and conservation of the moor’s different habitats, including their distribution, status, legal protection and the threats they face.
The event will also look at bracken management and celebrate the Friends’ success in securing funding for bracken control in selected areas using a flailbot. Dogs are welcome on leads.
The third event, Habitat Management and Footpath Maintenance, takes place on Tuesday 15 September, from 2pm to 4pm. Led by Tracy Gray and a Bradford Council Countryside Officer, this practical conservation session will provide an insight into upland habitat management and restoration, as well as demonstrating how maintaining a hardwearing footpath network helps protect the surrounding habitats and species. Dogs are unsuitable for this event.
All three events are moderate walks and require advance booking.
