The local heritage team at All Saints’ Church in Ilkley is looking for help from the community to turn the town into a TikTok sensation with free to attend Summer holiday activities.
Using All Saints and its rich heritage as a starting point, the newly developed space in the church will host three workshops where local people can come and help devise a series of short clips to celebrate some of the big characters from Ilkley history, exploring how they lived and their achievements whilst giving them a thoroughly modern twist.
Local blogger Jim Coulson will head the project that will see local people create videos about the history of the town:
“Think of it as a mixture of ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ and ‘Horrible Histories’” says Jim about the project. “We want to find out more about the legendary characters of the town, from the ones we have all heard of like Donkey Jackson to those that are less well known. We’ll find out all about their lives, how they interacted with the church and town, and then let our imaginations run wild to turn their stories into viral videos!”
The workshops will run on three different days:
Wednesday 25 August, 7:30pm - 9:30pm (open to everybody)
Thursday 26 August, 10:00am - 12:00pm (open to under 18s)
Saturday 28 August, 10:00am - 12:00pm (open to everybody)
Following the workshops, held as part of the development project at All Saints Church, Jim will use the outcomes of the sessions to create scripts about a host of Ilkley characters and everyone involved will have the chance to appear in the videos if they wish.
If you are interested in taking part in one of the workshops, email jim@jimcoulson.com for more details.
