Ilkley Grammar School has this afternoon (Monday) said its half term ski trip wasn’t to one of the affected areas of northern Italy on lockdown because of Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The school sent an email to parents of pupils who went on the ski trip on Pila, following concerns raised after an Ilkley mum has called a radio phone-in on BBC Radio 5 Live this morning for advice on coronavirus, saying her son had showed 'signs of having a sniffle' after returning from a ski trip on Sunday.
The school emailed parents to reassure them that the location of the ski trip falls outside the quarantine areas in northern Italy, therefore there is no requirement to self-isolate if returning travellers have no symptoms and are not feeling unwell.
The latest government medical advice for anyone returning from Northern Italy who develops flu-like symptoms is to self-isolate. Regardless of whether or not you are displaying symptoms, anyone returning from specific quarantine areas should call 111 or contact their GP for specific medical advice.
Another school in West Yorkshire have today gone into self-isolation after returning from a skiing trip in northern Italy. 19 pupils and four members of staff from Salendine Nook High School Academy in Huddersfield returned from their trip via Milan airport on Saturday.
