*Updated with result* Ilkley Bowling Club will vote later on allowing women to become full members


Update 21:50: The resolution was carried. Votes 506 with 377 for and 129 against - women can apply to be full members of Ilkley Bowling Club from 1 July 2020.


Ilkley Bowling club is expecting a large turn out from members later where at an extraordinary general meeting (EGM) they will decided whether to allow women members for the first time in its history.


The club which was founded in 1924 and has around 1,700 full members who are eligible to vote in the ballot which will be held tonight, Tuesday 3 March, at the King's Hall and Winter Garden.


The vote has been called by the committee with the recommendation that the motion is approved. It was last voted on around seven years ago when it was substantially rejected by members.


For the resolution to pass, it requires a two thirds majority of all members attending and voting at the EGM. If passed, both men and women will be able to apply for membership from 1 July 2020 and will be processed in line with existing membership guidelines and charges


Being a private members' club, it can set its own rules about who's eligible and who's not. Currently the rules of the club exclude women from its bar area every weekday, Monday to Thursday - they're only allowed in after 17:00 on a Friday and at weekends as associated members under their partners membership.
