Ilkley Choral Society (ICS) will be holding two Open Rehearsals and a Come and Sing ‘Vivaldi’s Gloria’ next month for prospective new members.
Open Rehearsals are on Mondays 5 and 12 September at Christchurch on The Grove, between 7.30 and 9.30pm. Prospective new members are invited to join officers and members for a chat and find out about Ilkley biggest choir over tea and coffee at 7pm.
Adrian Heeley, ICS chairman said: “Rehearsals are led by our experienced Musical Director Jennifer Sterling and music will be provided. ICS is a non-auditioned choir and welcomes new voices of all types (SATB). We recommend a good level of music reading, although some members also use audio resources to aid their learning.
“Rehearsals will start with Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle and Vaughan Williams’ Sea Symphony. Other concerts this season include Handel’s Messiah, Goodall’s Eternal Light and Gounod’s St Cecilia Mass. Singing with ICS offers exciting performance opportunities to sing some of the best choral music ever written alongside outstanding professional soloists and orchestras.”
Come and Sing on Saturday 10 September is at St. John’s church, Ben Rhydding. Musical Director, Jennifer Sterling, will be giving expert and professional tuition on Vivaldi’s Gloria throughout the day, culminating in a performance for family and friends at 3.30pm.
This event is a must for budding choir members and singers from the local area who would enjoy coming together to perform this vibrant and uplifting choral work.
Adrian added: "Jennifer Sterling is the Associate Choral Director at St Martin-in-the-Fields, London, and has extensive experience of working with choirs of all levels across the UK, and with prestigious organisations such as Opera North and the National Youth Choir of Scotland. We are very lucky to be able to offer this opportunity to singers in and around the Ilkley area."
The cost for the whole day is £18.00, with a reduced rate of £15 for students and under 18s. Tea and coffee is provided but participants should bring a packed lunch. Copies of the music will be provided on the day. Registration will be open from 10am and the event will finish at 4pm.
