Climate Café Listening Circle returns to Ilkley

A second Climate Café Listening Circle is coming to Ilkley next month, offering local people a welcoming, supportive space to share their feelings about climate change and the ecological crisis.

The free event will take place on Monday 16 November, from 7pm to 8.30pm at Quaker House on Queens Road, Ilkley.

It follows the first Climate Café in Ilkley and provides another opportunity for people to come together, listen to one another and explore the emotions that can arise when thinking about the planet's future.

A Climate Café is a small, informal and empathetic space where people can safely express their fears, concerns and uncertainties about the climate and ecological crisis. The listening circle follows a clear structure designed to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to speak and be heard.

There are no guest speakers or presentations, and it is an advice-free zone. Instead, the emphasis is on listening without judgement, recognising that there are no right or wrong feelings, and offering mutual support in a respectful and understanding environment.

The session will last approximately 90 minutes, with refreshments and cake provided. It will be facilitated by Kate Graham and Sarah Bradley, both members of Climate Action Ilkley, and following a model developed by the Climate Psychology Alliance.

Although the event is being held at Quaker House, there is no religious aspect to the session. The Climate Café is open to everyone aged 18 and over, regardless of their background or experience, and no previous involvement in climate-related activities is necessary.

The event is free to attend, but places are limited, so advance booking is essential. Reserve your place at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/2003596706685
