Ilkley hairdresser, William from William David Hair in Ilkley, has shared an update after revealing he is in remission following the first phase of chemotherapy.

William was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in June and has been undergoing intensive chemotherapy on the Annette Fox Ward at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

He said he has been told he is now in remission, while stressing that treatment is still ongoing and that remission does not mean he is cured.

Commenting on Facebook William said: "Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean I’m cured, there’s still a way to go yet, but it’s the best bloody start we could have asked for!"

William had been due to leave hospital today [28 August] for 10 days before beginning the next stage of treatment, but was given the option of continuing with his treatment immediately, which he decided to do, saying "I was given the option of striking while the iron’s hot and getting straight on with the next stage."

William added: "Once again, a massive thank you to everyone for all the messages, love and support — and, of course, to the incredible team looking after me."

Earlier in August and to say thank you, William's wife Hannah has set herself a fundraising challenge to run 500km in support of the Annette Fox Foundation.
