Ilkley is all set for Christmas this Saturday

Father Christmas will visit Ilkley early this weekend when he comes to switch on the new Christmas lights on Saturday, 25th November.

Preparations for the switch on are in their final stages and once again the town is preparing to welcome residents and visitors to a special day of festive entertainment and a Christmas market.

Bradford Markets will host the Christmas market on The Grove from 10am, with around 30 stalls featuring festive food and drink and Christmas gift ideas.

Guiseley Brass Band will play on the Bandstand from 10.30am and Hot Aire will perform Christmas songs from 1.30pm to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.

Rombalds Radio will once again host an exciting programme of street entertainment on The Grove outside Christchurch from 3.30pm, the festive line-up includes Love Pop Choir, Performance Dance, Ilkley Gym Club and Imogen Dickinson.

The highlight of the afternoon will be the switch on of the lights by Father Christmas. His procession will assemble in the Memorial Gardens from 4.30pm and will make its way down The Grove to Christchurch for the countdown at 5pm.

Following the switch on there will be an opportunity for children to visit Santa in his Grotto in Christchurch for free.

A portable Changing Places facility will be available throughout the day at Canker Well Gardens.

Also on Saturday, the annual Charity Christmas Fayre is taking place at the Clarke Foley Centre 11am-1pm and entry is free. Fourteen charities are taking part offering Christmas gifts, cards and decorations, raffles, tombolas, craft items, games, bric a brac and a host of other festive goodies.

Please note, a road closure will be in place on The Grove on Saturday from 7am until 7pm.
