Ilkley thrill-seekers raise £5,700 for children's charity

Simon, Harriet and Nick took on a tandem skydive

Last weekend, Simon Hawkshaw from Ilkley's Bathe of Wharfedale, a long-standing patron and supporter of The Principle Trust Children’s Charity, took on a tandem skydive from the Grange-over-Sands drop zone.

Joined by his friend Nick Simpson and daughter Harriet Simpson, Simon raised an incredible £5,700, which will help provide free respite breaks for children and families across Yorkshire facing difficult circumstances.

Strapped to experienced instructors, the trio jumped from over 15,000 feet, reaching speeds of up to 125mph before safely gliding back to earth. The challenge pushed them outside their comfort zones while raising vital funds for a cause close to their hearts.

Thanks to The Principle Trust’s 100% donation policy, every penny raised will directly support families in need. The £5,700 is enough to fund nine week-long holidays for nine families.

As a patron and long-standing supporter for The Principle Trust Children’s Charity, Simon has seen the incredible impact the charity has on children and their families. Speaking about his breath-taking fundraiser, Simon said: “The skydive this Saturday was a once-in-a-lifetime challenge and, while it was definitely outside of our comfort zones, we knew we were doing it for a cause that means a great deal to us. We want to extend our sincere thanks to every person who donated. It’s going to make such a difference to so many families, and we’re very grateful for the support.”
