Ilkley walk raises £1,500 for Alzheimer’s Research
More than 50 walkers took part in a sponsored walk organised by Ilkley Wharfedale Rotary Club on Sunday 20 September, raising over £1,500 for Alzheimer’s Research UK.
On a beautiful sunny day, the walkers gathered at East Holmes Field, proudly wearing their orange T-shirts, before setting off along the River Wharfe.
The route took the group towards the first of Ilkley’s three bridges, the Swing Bridge, before continuing to the Old Bridge. The walkers then made their way back along the north side of the Wharfe, finishing near the New Bridge.
The event was held in support of Alzheimer’s Research UK, the UK’s leading dementia research charity. The organisation funds research into the causes, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dementia, with researchers across the country working towards finding better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat the condition.
Both Leeds University and Bradford University are involved in research contributing to the wider effort to understand dementia and work towards a future free from the condition.
The Ilkley Wharfedale Rotary Club walk was one of several sponsored walks organised by Rotary clubs across Yorkshire in support of Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Thanks to the generosity of the walkers, supporters and sponsors, the Ilkley event raised more than £1,500, making a valuable contribution to dementia research.
The Rotary Club thanked everyone who took part and helped make the event such a successful and enjoyable day.
