Ilkley will celebrate World Car-Free Day which happens on 22nd September every year.
Organised by Climate Action Ilkley, the town will once again this year be taking part in these international celebrations and on Sunday 25th September, the Grove will be closed to traffic between 11am and 4pm. The event was originally planned for 18th September.
This is the third time Ilkley has participated in World Car-Free Day and organisers are hoping that this year, the day will be bigger and better than ever.
A spokesperson for Climate Action Ilkley said: "It is a worldwide demonstration of what can be done with the space in which we live our daily lives, once cars are removed from the scene, and people are allowed to take over the space normally given over to roads.
"There will be plenty of music and entertainment, and in the afternoon, a storyteller will be telling tales both to adults and to children. The Children’s Play Area is back by popular demand and art displays by the local primary schools will focus on the theme of ‘Imagining a Carbon Free Future for Ilkley’. There will be food and drink stalls and places to sit and eat, and meet or make friends.
"Community Groups, particularly environmental groups and cycling groups, will have stalls and will be happy to advise on such things as active travel, solar panels and heat pumps, car clubs and car-sharing schemes, electric cargo-bike hire, bike maintenance, and so on. The Town Council will also be taking part so that residents will be able to find out what local councillors are doing to promote active travel in Ilkley.
"The full programme will be published closer to the event and residents will be able always to access the most up-to-date version of the schedule by following the QR code on the posters and banners advertising the event or by following the link on the Climate Action Ilkley website."
