Ilkley’s first well-being magazine to launch in December

Velvaere founder Rosina Horn

Velvaere, a new well-being magazine launches on 1 December.

The brainchild of local resident Rosina Horn, Velvaere (the Danish word for well-being) has a simple mission: to bring people and communities together through well-being and has chosen Ilkley as its first location.

Written for and by the Ilkley community, the first edition will include articles on Health, Well-being, Mindfulness and Mindfulness for Children, Mental Health, Travel (or currently alternative travel), Lifestyle, the #ilkleyisopen and #shoplocal campaigns and feature stories and advice from local people and specialists including: Nutritionist - Beth Hughes; Mental Health duo - Jimmy Vaughan and John Bailey from @TalkThrive; Blogger - Georgie Mitchell; Travel Guide - Tash from Must Dash Travel and Photographer - Laura Conway from The Roaming Hind.

The idea came to Rosina, during Lockdown #1. Already in the midst of huge personal upheaval, Rosina was looking for guidance and resources that would help her to move into a more positive place. Something that would combine local support with inspiring real-life stories and the connectivity of our online world. But she struggled to find anything that ticked the right boxes. Until she was woken at 2am one morning by her 16-month old son, Arlo, realised she should 'create it herself!' And the idea for Velvaere was born.

Rosina said: "I’m really excited about launching Velvaere in Ilkley not least because the response from the Ilkley community has been phenomenal. So many local people and businesses are committed to making Ilkley a positive and supportive community to live in. I hope that Velvaere will play an important part in making that happen. I love the Helen Keller quote: "Alone we can do so little: Together we can do so much" and hope that our interactive, digital, local magazine helps to build an even stronger, inclusive Ilkley full of positivity."

Velvaere launches in Ilkley and surrounding villages on 1 December 2020 followed by Skipton and Harrogate in 2021, with free business advertising until February 2021.
