Ilkley's generosity shines at Rotary Recycle Day

The Rotary Recycle Day held at the Central Car Park in Ilkley on Saturday has once again proved a resounding success, with local residents donating a huge range of items for charities and community projects.

The sunny weather on Saturday 26 September may have helped bring people out, but it was the continued generosity of the people of Ilkley and surrounding areas that made the event such a success.

Among the donations collected were:

• 60–70 bicycles, together with dozens of mobility aids, for Upcycle, the Shipley-based charity.

• A “shed load” of tools and sewing machines for local charity Tools for Africa, which uses equipment to help people establish small businesses.

• A large car boot-load of trainers and backpacks for Biasan, a Bradford-based refugee charity.

• Two car boot-loads of school teaching and sports materials for the local Gambian School Project charity.

• Two large bags of spectacles for SpecSortYork, the York-Ainsty Rotary optician’s charity, which distributes spectacles in West Africa.

  
  

  

The Rotary Club of Ilkley Wharfedale would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated items and helped make the day such a success. The continued support and generosity of the local community are greatly appreciated.
