Live Painting and Music inspired by the River Wharfe

Ilkley Manor House will host a unique evening of live music and painting on Friday 9 October, bringing together audio visual duo Latterhand and artist Anji Timlin.

Set among Timlin’s large-scale River Wharfe paintings, the event forms part of CONDUiT – Wharfespeed, her current exhibition celebrating the river, its landscapes and communities.

Bradford-based Latterhand will create an evolving ambient soundscape using piano, violin and field recordings from the Wharfe, while Timlin responds by creating a new painting live. The artwork will be projected onto a large screen, allowing audiences to watch the creative process unfold as music, movement and colour interact.

Andreea Chitan, Events and Exhibitions Manager at Ilkley Manor House, said: “This is exactly the kind of event we want to create at the Manor House – bringing different art forms together and giving audiences an experience they wouldn’t normally have.

“What I particularly love about this performance is that nobody, including the artist, knows exactly what the finished piece will look like. The music, the painting and the atmosphere of the room will all influence one another.

“And having it take place surrounded by Anji’s paintings makes it feel particularly connected to the landscape immediately around us.”

CONDUiT – Wharfespeed runs at Ilkley Manor House from 12 September to 18 October, with a wider programme of music, talks, storytelling, film and readings exploring rivers, landscape, communities and our relationship with the natural world.

Wharfespeed forms part of the wider CONDUiT project and has been supported by Bradford Culture Company, LCF Law, Friendly Framing and Keighley Town Council.
