Local Ballerina success

Jo Sproston, principal of ‘Joze School of Dance’ is proud to announce that six of her young dancers have successfully auditioned for the English Youth Ballet.

They will be performing alongside professional ballet dancers on stage at the St George’s Hall in Bradford as part of a full length performance of “Coppelia” at the end of April.

The dancers are Tilda Downes-Davies (age 13), Matilda Thorpe (age 12), Amelia Merifield (age 12), Millie England (age 13), Susanna Thompson (age 13), and Zara Whittaker (age 13).

English Youth Ballet was founded in 1998. The Founder and Director, Janet Lewis M.B.E. gives opportunities for young ballet dancers outside of London a unique opportunity to experience life in a professional ballet company in performances of classical ballets in the regional theatres of England, Scotland and Wales.

‘Joze School of Dance’ runs classes in Ilkley for children and adults of all ages and abilities in classical ballet, contemporary dance, tap, jazz and theatre-dance.

Jo commented: "This incredible opportunity will be made even more significant for the 6 girls involved as Covid restrictions have meant extremely limited chances to perform publicly have been available to them for the past 22 months.

"The whole dance school is proud of them and hopefully many will be able to go and watch the actual performance."
