Mayfield View and 5th Avenue shine in first Blooming Ilkley competition

In the build-up to the Ilkley Flower Show this year, show organisers teamed up with Ilkley BID to run the first Blooming Ilkley competition.


Shops and businesses across town created their own wheelbarrow creations.


Alan Titchmarsh CBE DL VMH, Patron of the Ilkley Flower Show, judged the displays and said: “What a difficult job I had deciding on the winners. It’s really rewarding to see so many entries and such vivid imaginations! Thanks to all those who entered and made Ilkley’s shop windows bring a smile to the faces of passers-by. Well done all!!


Members of the public were also invited to choose their favourite display as part of the People’s Choice Award.


The winners are as follows:


OVERALL WINNER: Mayfield View

2ND PLACE: Ilkley Scope Shop

3RD PLACE: Skipton Building Society

SUSTAINABILITY AWARD: Porters Menswear

MOST INNOVATIVE DISPLAY: Fuggle & Golding Tap House

PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD (as voted for by the public): 5th Avenue Clothes

Each of the winners received a certificate from David Shaw MBE, Chair of the Ilkley Flower Show.


Ilkley BID said: “We’ve loved seeing all the beautiful wheelbarrow displays around town – they’ve certainly brightened up Ilkley. Well done and thank you to all the businesses who took part".

The 2026 Ilkley Flower Show takes place on Saturday [19 September] from 2pm at All Saints Ilkley on Church Street. The show will feature everything from floral displays and home-grown produce to baking, handicrafts and creative exhibits, showcasing the remarkable talent, creativity and community spirit that make Ilkley so special.


Admission is just £2 for adults, while children go free. Attendees will also have a chance to enter the raffle, with prizes donated by many local businesses.
