On Sunday 22nd September, in collaboration with Ilkley Car Free Festival, Ilkley Clean River Group is hosting a national conference on what it will take to clean up our rivers, lakes and seas.

A spokesperson for the Ilkley Clean River Group said: "We are joined by scientists, industry and regulators, policy makers and campaigners. The event moves beyond analysing the problem to working out what the solution should be."

Speakers will include:

  • The national experts on water quality, Prof Jamie Woodward (microplastics), Alistair Boxall (chemicals) Rick Battarebee (nutrients), Andrew Singer (pollution scientist);

  • Leading campaigners, Matt Staniek from Save Windermere sharing the scandal of our national park, Nick Measham CEO of Wild Fish explaining what is legal pollution, James Wallace CEO of River Action, Kirsty Davies of Surfers Against Sewage, Jo Bradley from Stormwater Shepherds;

  • Regulators Helen Wakeham, Director of Water for the Environment Agency, and we are joined by Chris Walters, Senior Director of the Current Price Review (proposing bill rises) at Ofwat.

Ilkley Clean River Group will be sharing it owns campaign news and Yorkshire Water will attend and outline its proposed solutions to secure clean water in the River Wharfe, which could then be a prototype for both how rivers are cleaned up nationally, but also showing the actual cost of doing so.
