Christchurch, Ilkley, welcomed its new minister, Revd Simon Helme, at an induction service on Saturday 3 October.
Simon and his wife Debbie had moved to Ilkley from Dursley, Gloucestershire, where Simon had served as minister at Dursley Tabernacle for 25 years. Originally from Burnley, Simon was delighted to be returning north, joking that he was already “dropping my h’s” and that Debbie was demanding subtitles!
Simon said he was excited by the energy, enthusiasm and inclusivity of the Christchurch community, and its desire to make a difference locally.
He hoped to encourage growth and a greater sense of belonging among 20–40-year-olds, while working with Youth, Children and Families Worker Michael Johnston to develop Sunday provision for children and families.
“I’m looking forward to what the next seven years may bring,” said Simon.
