Olicanian Cricket Club’s Under 13’s team clinched the Airedale Junior League Cup, beating Leeds-based New Rover in a tense final played at Denton Road, Ilkley.
Amid gloomy and breezy conditions, Olicanian batted first and made 87 for 6 in their 20 overs, a score which many thought might be vulnerable against a New Rover side which has dominated its section of the U13’s league this season.
An accurate bowling performance and some excellent fielding meant that the visitors never really mounted a serious assault on the Olicanian total and, at the end of their innings, they had made 63 for 8 off their 20 overs, giving the home side victory by 24-runs.
Olicanian opening bowler Ewan Stirling was named man-of-the-match after his four overs went for just three runs and brought four wickets.
