Bard in the Yard will be back in August and Ilkley Playhouse will hold open auditions next week.
In 2020, Bard in the Yard consisted of a selection of Shakespearian monologues. In 2021 it was half-hour versions of Macbeth and Twelfth Night. Both were extremely well received and well attended.
This summer, Ilkley Playhouse will be performing a half-hour version of “Romeo and Juliet” directed by Dick Hebbert plus half an hour of 6-8 Shakespearian duologues directed by Andrew Leggott.
Performances will take place at 7.30pm in the Wildman Studio at Ilkley Playhouse on Saturday 27th August and at 2.00pm in the open air at the Manor House Yard on Sunday 28th and Monday 29th August (Bank Holiday).
Andrew said: “We shall be holding open auditions on Wednesday 4th May at Ilkley Playhouse at 7.30 pm. There is no need to prepare in advance; we shall simply read the works. You may either choose your own significant Shakespearian Duologue and partner, bring them with you! or both can be allocated to you following the auditions.
“We shall do 6-8 of these, to make up about 30 minutes. Examples are: Hamlet and the Gravedigger, As You Like It – Celia and Rosalind etc. At the performance you will explain the context of your own extract and then perform it.”
All members (and non-members) are eligible to attend. The playhouse also welcome students in school years 12 and 13 as, because of the nature of the event there will be some flexibility in casting. All rehearsals will be in August (some holidays for participants will be possible, by negotiation with the Directors).
Any wishing to audition can just turn up on 4th May, if you have any queries, please contact Andrew Leggott on 01943 602014 or email@example.com
