Public meeting, China and climate challenge, what does it mean for UK?

Climate Action Ilkley is hosting a free public meeting entitled ‘The China Climate Question: What China’s energy transition means for the rest of the world - and the UK’.
The event on Wednesday 18 November will be at the Clarke Foley Community Hub in Ilkley from 7:30pm to 9pm
The speaker will be Dr Clare Richardson-Barlow from the University of Leeds, who is ideally placed to address this question. She is a Lecturer in the Global Politics of China, specialising in just transitions and industrial decarbonisation.
There will be plenty of time for questions and discussion afterwards.
Steve Peel of Climate Action Ilkley said ''We often hear people say that greenhouse gas emissions from the UK are tiny compared to China and they are still building coal-fired power stations. The implication is that China is not doing enough to tackle climate change. Is it true? And should the UK engage with China to help shape a global transition?’
The meeting will be taking place as the United Nations Conference of the Parties, COP31 in Turkiye, will be approaching its climax and the eyes of the world will be on what commitments China is making.
