Record Breaking Week at 141st Ilkley Open

While the Lexus Ilkley Open takes much of the spotlight in Ilkley Lawn Tennis & Squash Club's [ILTSC] sporting calendar, it is certainly not the only success story that the club sees over the Summer.
Celebrating its 141st year, the ‘original’ Ilkley Open is the Club’s second largest annual tournament. The week-long event welcomes up and coming playing from across the country, including a group of 64 players who make the journey down from the Adam Brown Academy in Scotland as part of their Summer Tour.
This year proved to be a record-breaking week. With over 550 entries and the weather on their side, the tournament team powered through an impressive 1125 matches- a new record and one that will be hard to beat!
Kyle Brassington, Head Coach at ILTSC and Tournament Director said it was one of the best weeks in the tournament’s history: “It’s fantastic to see the club buzzing with so many players throughout the week. Many players have been coming to this tournament for several year so it’s nice to see their tennis progressing as they grow up.
"From under 8s to over 70s, this is a tournament for everyone. We even had three generations of the same family playing, the youngest of which is a member here at the club.”
With such a diverse range of age categories, the Ilkley Open is one of the most inclusive tournaments in the UK.
More than 30 club members took part and for some it turned out to be a winning week with strong results across the board:
• George Maden: 9 & under Boys Doubles winner and 9 & under Boys Singles runner up
• Leo Hall and Hugo Asmussen: 12 & Under Boys Doubles runners up
• Isabelle Egglestone: 14 & under Girls Singles winner
• Alice Brook: Ladies Doubles winner
• Aanya Bhamra: 11 & Under Girls singles runner up
• Leo Hall: 11 & under Boys singles runner up
