Spinathon for platinum Jubilee at Clarke Foley Centre

To celebrate the Queen’s platinum Jubilee in June, the Clarke Foley Community Centre in Ilkley will be running a Spinathon fundraising event.

From 5pm on Wednesday 1 June until 3pm on Saturday 4 June, a team of riders will cycle for 70 hours nonstop to raise vital funds towards the upgrade of the Centre’s audio-visual equipment. Last year, the Centre raised just over £2,000 towards this project through its participation in the Ilkley Half Marathon.

“This year, we’re aiming to better that amount with an even more ambitious event!” said Business Manager, Michele Ince, “We’re inviting everyone from our local community to join our team of riders and help us keep the pedals turning. Whether you can cycle for 15 minutes or an hour, we need your help to complete the challenge!”.

The event will take place at The Clarke Foley Centre on Cunliffe Road; one spin bike will be based outside at the front of the building during the day, with another based indoors for the overnight shifts.

If you would like to take part and sign up for a shift to help the team, you can find sign-up and sponsorship forms on the CF Jubilee Spinathon page https://www.clarkefoley.org.uk/cf-jubilee-spinathon-1st-june-4th-june , you can request one on email at fundraising@clarkefoley.org.uk, or you can collect one from the Centre in person.

The Centre is asking all participating riders to aim to raise at least £10 each through sponsorship.

If you would like to support the event, there are many ways you can do this: You can donate via the CF Jubilee Spinathon Just Giving page online (coming soon), you can sponsor someone you know to take part in the event, you can support via the donate button at www.clarkefoley.org.uk , you can fill in a sponsorship form in the Centre to pledge an amount to support the team, or you can simply donate money on the day!

The Café will be open, 10am – 4pm, throughout the event so come down to the Centre for hot drinks, cakes, lunch and to cheer on the team!

Michele ends by saying, “We would like to give a special thanks to Ilkley Tennis Club for providing the two spin bikes that we will be using for the event.”
