The Box Tree to auction items as refurbishment continues

Furniture, artwork, ceramics and furnishings from Ilkley’s award-winning The Box Tree restaurant are set to go under the hammer.

As the restaurant undergoes a major £500,000 refurbishment, The auction, with almost 70 lots, offers buyers the opportunity to own a piece of the history of one of Ilkley’s best-known restaurants, with a selection of furniture, pictures, ceramics and other furnishings from the iconic venue.

The Box Tree occupies one of Ilkley’s oldest buildings, a farmhouse dating back to 1720. The property became known as Box Tree House in the late 19th century after businessman Septimus Wray planted the box trees that remain synonymous with the building today. It later housed an antique shop and tearoom before becoming a restaurant in 1962.

Founded by Malcolm Reid and Colin Long, The Box Tree quickly established itself as one of the North’s most successful restaurants. Over the decades, renowned chefs including Michael Truelove, Edward Denny and Marco Pierre White have each left their mark on its menus and history.

Today, the restaurant remains a celebrated part of Ilkley’s culinary heritage and is listed in the Michelin Guide, under the direction of Head Chef Brayden Davies.

With the £500,000 refurbishment now underway, the auction marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for The Box Tree, while giving enthusiasts the chance to take home a piece of the restaurant’s remarkable history.
