The Principle Trust celebrates 15 years of making memories

To mark International Day of Charity on 5 September, The Principle Trust Children’s Charity is celebrating the supporters behind 15 years of making memories for children facing adversity across Yorkshire — with its story firmly rooted in Ilkley.
Established in 2011 by Ilkley resident Mike Davies MBE, The Principle Trust provides respite breaks for children facing challenges including mental health difficulties, trauma, abuse, poverty, serious illness and disabilities.
With around one in 10 children in England now having an active referral to mental health services, providing vulnerable children and their families with opportunities to spend quality time together is more important than ever.
Over the past 15 years, the generosity of supporters, including individuals, families, businesses and community groups in Ilkley and across Yorkshire, has helped The Principle Trust support more than 6,300 children facing life’s toughest challenges and raise an incredible £2.3 million to help continue its work.
Ilkley has also provided an important backdrop for the charity’s fundraising activity over the years, bringing the local community together to support its work. Events including the BIG Ilkley Quiz and the charity’s Charity Ball at The Craiglands Hotel in Ilkley have helped raise vital funds while giving local supporters the opportunity to come together and get behind a cause that has its roots in the town.
Mike Davies MBE, Founder of The Principle Trust Children’s Charity, said: "We have such a strong community around us and their support has been instrumental in helping us grow and deliver our mission over the past 15 years. Every act of support, no matter how big or small, helps us make a real difference.
“Our 15th anniversary is a celebration not just of what The Principle Trust has achieved, but of every person, business and organisation that has stood behind us. What we have learnt since starting is that to make lasting memories it really does take a community and we are incredibly grateful for everyone who has helped make that possible.”
Fifteen years after its beginnings, The Principle Trust, whose base is in Skipton, continues to be supported by a strong local community, alongside supporters from across Yorkshire. From fundraising events and business partnerships to individual donations and volunteering, the charity’s journey demonstrates how the support of one community can have a far-reaching impact.
This International Day of Charity, The Principle Trust is inviting more individuals and businesses in Ilkley, as well as across Yorkshire, to become part of its community and help create precious memories for children facing adversity.
