Water safety awareness event planned in Ilkley

A free community event focused on water safety will take place at East Holmes Field in Ilkley on Thursday 27 August from 3pm.

Hosted by Bradford Council and supported by West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and West Yorkshire Police, the event is open to residents of all ages and aims to equip residents with essential skills to stay safe near water.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service will be showcasing specialist water rescue equipment and firefighers will conduct in-water demonstrations and share life-saving advice to help people understand what to do if they get into difficulty in water and how to help others.

Attendees will also learn about water safety skills through interactive demonstrations and family activities, including Float to Live and Phone, Float Throw campaigns.

Anyone interested in attending is asked to meet at 3pm at the suspension bridge end of East Holmes Field, and the awareness event is expected to last around 90 minutes.
